This project has been inspired by the wonderful Boro Boxes from my friend Lindsay aka the Border Tart (www.tartsart.co.uk) and the majority of my blue fabrics were bought directly from her. Boro Stitching derives from the Japanese word Boroboro which means “repaired” and referred to the patching and darning techniques used to repair utilitarian clothing and bedding. Over time we have come to properly appreciate the beauty in this work born from necessity and this style of stitching has become a very timely way to incorporate mindfulness into our creativity.
Add in beautiful scraps of vintage lace and ribbon and a piece of tea dyed calico and the needle turn appliqué style I learned from admiring the work of Janet Bolton and you have a fusion of influences in one piece of mindful stitching.
